Red

I've realised that I don,t use red very much in my embroidery, so here are two photos I've played around with. First. Some redcurrants (?) in Queen Eleanor's Garden at the Great Hall in Winchester.

Second, a photograph of some bark on a tree at Mottisfont Abbey - the marks on the bark are really those shapes, but I did add a touch of red.

And finally, the only red needlework I could find - a knitted shawl I made to use up lots of odd balls, which I wear all the time.

red round-leaved sundew

"Sundews supplement the meagre nutrients found in acid, wetland soils by absorbing minerals from insect prey. But it’s the flat, rosette of long-stalked, reddy-coloured Sundew leaves that is the most interesting part of the plant, and certainly the most dangerous, for it is these that have evolved to hold tight and absorb unsuspecting midges and other insects foolish enough to land on their sticky surface."

Red Raspberry Tisane

At this time of the year red is exploding every where at the green grocers and market stalls so it was hard to choose but raspberries are the my absolute favorite of all fruits and I love it in every shape and form. The raspberry tisane is something relatively new to me so I thought I would share

Just back from Japan and my eyes are still popping from the brilliant orangey "Bengal red" of the temples. 

Red Hot

With the over 100 degree temperatures we have been having across America, red to me means HOT.

We have had over 100 degrees for more than 3 weeks. It's too hot to do anything.

This is one of my art quilts from some of my hand dyed fabrics and the finished piece is mounted on canvas. Name of the piece is "Solar Flare"

Red buttons

A few years ago I was very enamored with red and did a journal quilt all in red. This is the section of buttons, all red of course, surrounded by over thirty different fabrics all dyed in various shades of red.

Here is a textile piece I did some time ago. It is called "Colours of a Migraine".

Trying to make some good come out of the raw bruised inside of my head feeling that comes with Migraines!

The colour for August is Red.

Rosy Red, Blood Red, Scarlet Red whatever you like or are inspired by. It would be interesting to know what attracts you to the particular shade of red you choose. or is it the shape, mood, or the contrast with what is around your red.

Red is for raspberry - but really for the secret smile on the dressing!
