D is for Natural DYE, Daffodil and Bright Yellow

I have not been able to keep up with the prompts here of late so have decided to merge two themes in one post. I have been trying to achieve a bright yellow from natural dyes. I did get lovely shades from Lilac twigs and a butternut squash but they were not BRIGHT.

Yesterday I had two dye pots on the go, Barberry bark, and Daffodils. To the left you can see the Barberry bark dyed merino, angora, silk tussah and silk nuno gauze. In the centre is a solar dyed nuno gauze in left over dye pot water from my last batch of onion skin dyeing. To the right is daffodil dyed nuno gauze, silk tussah, angora and merino.

D is for Dog of course

Since June 2002 except for occasional visits where it has been impossible for him to accompany me I have been walking our lovely German Shepherd, who came to us from a dogs' home, 4 times a day, every day, come rain or shine. As the years have gone by the walks have become shorter and shorter and now at the age of 12 they are very limited in distance and time. Despite this the walks are my daily dose of inspiration or sometimes they provide me with solutions to a problem. There are always fresh ideas to be had even now where we walk the same 4 walks very slowly every day. Paw prints in the snow; leaves slowly uncurling, wonderful colours and patterns in rain puddles, reflections in windows, broken roof tiles in a skip it is there everywhere around us. Long may these daily opportunities for collecting ideas last! Thor 11.10.2009

Letter - D

The prompt for the rest of April is for things having to do with the Letter D.

You are welcome to post artwork of any medium. It can be something you do now, or something you did in the past. You also can post initial ideas that may be a basis for something you do in the future. It can also just be a thinking exercise...what might you do if you did have time to do it?

I have been offline for a bit because the resident computer experts declared I needed the computer upgraded, so I will post my D tomorrow. I will have a better look at what glorious yellows have been showing up, too!
