A Few More Stars

Stars in Spain

When I saw the theme "Stars" immediately a visit in Spain (Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba) came to my mind. There you will find stars everywhere.

Star and L

I found the space to post from!  Whew.  Several days and several hours today alone.  You know...it was right there in front of me the whole time.  Now that I am here, here is my image for Star.  I saw postings for "L", and I am putting an image on here for that too, although, I'm not sure the deadline for that.

This is a barn I happened upon while traveling through the Ft. Worth, TX area.  Being a Texan, well.  You see I had to have a reminder of home, and it included the bluebonnets which come out at the end of cold winter days.

Star

I've been looking around for a star shape all week and today I realized there was one on my crazy quilt that I see every day.

Stargazer Lily

This is my first contribution. The lilies are adding a bright spot of colour to my lounge on a very gloomy day.

Red star

Found this gift tag today whilst clearing away all the Christmas decorations. So appropriate.

A star to remember

This photo was taken in the Frauenkirche in Nurnberg, Germany. The church was built between 1352 and 1362 on the site of a Jewish synagogue, which was destroyed in a pogrom after the locals were unhappy about the Black Death. For centuries it was the official display place for the regalia (crown, scepter, etc.) of the Holy Roman Emperors.

In 1945 Nurnberg was almost destroyed in bombing raids. It was not a military target, but the Allies were sending a message to this town that had so fervently embraced Hitler in the early days of his power. The Frauenkirche was badly hit and had to be almost totally rebuilt after the war.

When they redid the church, they put a Star of David on the floor directly in front of the main altar.

The signage explaining the star is a not-so-subtle reminder that this was not one of Christianity’s finest hours. It reads “Am Anfang ist das Pogrom” – in the beginning is the pogrom. It’s a twist on the opening words of the Gospel of John, which in German say “Am Anfang war das Wort” – in the beginning was the word.

The sign says on December 5, 1349 the Jewish Quarter (today the Market Square) was destroyed and 562 Jews were murdered.

Here's the long view of the altar area, with the Star of David visible to the right of the bench.

Star

I have been following this blog for some time and feeling I should join in so when Sandy invited new members for the Contemporary Quilt Group I thought I would jump in.  I hope I will be able to contribute regularly, I've certainly got a huge library of photos to work with without having to find new things.

Stars in architecture

These are three different stars from the Doheny Street Synagogue in Budapest.  The top two, which are windows, could easily be made into pieced quilt blocks.  The pink one at the bottom is based on Moroccan stars.

L is for lapse....

I am sorry I lost my way half way through the year.  I will try to keep up this time. Happy New Year Sandy and all other inspired persons.

I don't know what kind of plant is this. I've photographed it in UK, if you know what it is let me know :)
ADDENDUM: thanks to megsramsey that identified this plant as a Phlomis fruticosa
