Ornate/Simple - and some Admin

The new prompt for April is Ornate/Simple or More/Less, or anything along those lines.

This should be interesting. I think we are often drawn to ornate architecture and other forms of craftmanship because we recognise the work which went into it. But simple...is that so easy to catch the eye?

You can post images of a combination of Ornate/Simple or two photos with an example of each. If you discover quite a few examples you are welcome to post several times. I am looking forward to seeing what you discover.

These photos are of a Victorian Gothic church in Leeds. My Sister-in-Law is the Vicar. I love the difference between the Doorway and the functional little door.

I will set the label to Ornate/Simple.

***************
You may have noticed that Blogger has begun it's changes. So the place for finding and selecting the labels is to the right of the box where you compose the post. When you click on it, it will open up and you can select the appropriate label from the list. You have to click on Done for it to be applied.

When you have completed your post, the button for Publish is at the top of the screen next to the box for the title of your post. (There are also buttons to save, to preview, and to close the post.) If you find you are having difficulties, please let me know and I will try to help.

By the way, if you select Save, rather than Publish, Blogger will save your post in draft form...it will only be published if you go back and find it and select publish from there. To get to the list with draft posts, select new post at the top bar on the actual blog. It will give you a new compose box. But if you select Close at the top, it will go to the page with all the posts listed. You can find your saved draft posts there and edit them if need be or just publish them. You can also access posts which you forgot to label and edit them to be assigned a label. (This is where I go to edit labels as Admin if someone forgets to label a post, or if they have added extra labels beyond the assigned one for that particular prompt.)

ADMIN:Pinterest- please read.

I am not sure if you are aware of the current debate about Pinterest, a social networking site where people can 'pin' photos of images they like to a bulletin board of inspiration. There is a lot of concern about copyright.

In theory, with Pinterest, the atribution of an artist's work is meant to remain with the photo, but apparently can be lost as it is passed on. I have only recently been made aware of the idea and know nothing of all the ins and outs. However, I have taken the decision to make this Ideas of Inspiration blog 'unpinnable'.

I realise that the purpose of this blog is actually to inspire. But I have discovered that even if photos pinned do continue to be attributed properly as they are passed on, the pinned photo actually retains the information of the blog from which it is taken. So, if they pin from this blog, your photo does not have your name attached to it, but has Ideas of Inspiration on the label.

As far as I can tell with a search, a few photo have been pinned from this blog. For the most part it has been photographs posted for the themes. A few of these, however, were photos of member's actual work. I have not been able to work out how to comment on the 'pinners' page. It looks like you have to belong to pin. One has attributed to the actual maker and one does not. I do not know how to follow this up myself, but if I can discover a way, I will let you know.
EDIT:(I have tried to search again so I can let the indiviuals know. But Pinterest pages don't seem to be showing. Maybe they are making changes themselves.)

In my mind, it is up to an individual if they want to choose one way or another for their personal blog, but in this case I feel it would be better to protect the whole group. I have inserted the code which has been created to stop pinning. I understand that now, when someone tries to pin, a message will come up to say that pinning is not allowed here. It does not help with the photos which have already been pinned.

A bit of blog admin stuff:

Drafts of posts...
When I am checking out the edit post section (to add labels when they have been left off), Sometimes there are drafts of posts which I am not sure are there because you are coming back to them or because you needed help to get them to publish. I know sometimes blogger is a bit difficult to get it to do what you want.

If you look above the title box where you compose your posts, you can see a tab that says Edit Posts. If you click that, you can see if you have any draft posts you think you may have 'lost'. You can either edit them or complete them and publish them, or you can choose to delete them. Some of them have some interesting things in them and I wouldn't like the others to miss out!

If you need help at any time for posting, just send me an email. You can click on Sandy in the list of members and it will bring up my profile with a link to my email.

Posting to the blog

Hi all,
I am glad to have so many new members posting! We have already had 28 posts for Star! I thought it might be a difficult shape!

If it is possible, I would like to keep the posts and photos directly related to the prompts. It just makes the blog clearer to follow for those who are using it for inspiration. The new prompt will go up on the 15th of January and will be the Letter M.

You can still take part with past prompts - just make it clear what prompt you are posting to. If you look on the bottom right of the box where you compose your messages, you will see a box that says labels. So when you post, you can type in 'star' or 'L' Or whatever the prompt is. You can also click the link next to the Labels box which says 'show all' and choose the correct prompt from that box.

On months where there are 31 days, we often have a Featured Blog Day. So, the 31st of this month - January will be a Featured Blog day. If you would like to take part, tell us about your blog, why you blog and what you try to show through your blog.

I am looking forward to see what other interesting inspirational contributions that come through for 2011!

Thanks for all of your input already in this New Year!

Welcome!

We have a lot of new members joining. I am looking forward to the new inspirations!
Remember, they can be tenuous links, too! Gets the mind working. :)

Remember to use the specific label for the current challenge so people can look at all the posts for a particular prompt. (Choose in the box at the bottom right when you are composing your post.)

Not to throw you all for a loop or anything. but I am going to change the template used. The current one cannot be made wider, but I think some of the photos that are showing up wide can be seen better on a different template. After all, we don't need wide margins!

If anyone is having troubles  posting, just email me an I will try to help you sort it out.

FYI: updated blogger editor

I have been reading about an updated Blogger editor from some people on another group. and then I needed to set up a group blog for the textile art group I belong to. So, I chose the updated editor and found it gave it to me for all the blogs for which I am admin.

So, if you are confused when go come on here to post, that is why. Perhaps it will be easier for those who struggled with the old one. But if you have even more problems, let me know, and I will go back to the old one.

Apparently it means you can load photos in sequence better. This is how it was explained...
"Click the image box to add an image. You can upload as many photos -
jpegs, pngs, tiffs as you want BUT the difference is they are only
uploaded as thumbnails - ie they are NOT actually uploaded to your
blog posting until you click on the photo and say OK. I have uploaded
as many as a dozen images in this way - 8 per page so I had 2 pages
in my case and was able to go from page 1 to 2 or vice-versa to select
the images I wanted.
A pale yellow box shows around the image when you select. Now click OK
and the image will post to you blog entry. Now add text ... (if you
want).
To add the next image to your posting go to the format line at the
top of the blog post and click the image box again. You will be taken
back to the image uploader page with ALL the photos/images thumbnails
you previously uploaded. Now highligh the image you want and click OK
again. This second image will now post to the blog entry at the
position your cursor was at before you clicked the upload image box.
Continue in this way going between blog posting and image uploader to
select the images you want in the order you want them. Remember to
press OK or your images will not go to the post entry."

Please leave a comment about how it is working for you. I will delete this post after a week or so.

Posting Info

Just in case you still want to post to a previous topic, you can still do so. Here are 2 things you might not know about Blogger that can help.

1. If you click "Show All" next to the blank box at the bottom of the box for composing posts, it will show the labels for the various prompts we have had. Select the one to which your submission belongs. This helps anyone wanting to look at all of the submissions relevant to the topic label. Even if you are posting on time, it would be helpful if you could do this.

2. Also on the bar at the bottom of the compose box, there is a link called " Post Options". If you click on that, you will see Post date and time to the right. You can back date your post so that it falls within the time period for the topic to which you are submitting. So, if you want your submission on "Winter White" to show up with the others of that time period, you can alter the date to be the date preceeding the start date for the following prompt. (If you don't understand, just email me.)

It doesn't necessarily apply to this blog, but you can actually post in advance of the date or time you wish your posts to appear, as well. You just have the change it to be the date or time you want the post to appear. When you have composed the post, click publish post - as usual. It will take you to the edit post page and show that the post is scheduled to appear. A useful trick if you are going to be away!

Looking forward to seeing what you are working on whenever you want to show it!
