F is for Freedom

"A Memory with No History" is my quilt to honor Oney "Oma" Judge, seamstress to Martha Washington, who was a run away slave. This quilt will be part of an exhibition called "The President's House: The Untold Story in Quilt" organized by Michelle Flamer this fall in Philadelphia.

F is for Folk Art

This has got to be my favorite kind of art work. But what is folk art? To me, it's a feeling and I can recognized it right away. Some people might not like their art to be called folk art, but I welcome the label.

Wikipedia's description is: "art produced from an indigenous culture or by peasants or other laboring tradespeople. In contrast to fine art, folk art is primarily utilitarian and decorative rather than purely aesthetic."

The one piece of jewelry that I've made, that most reminds me of folk art is Turtle Treasure Necklace. Here's the haiku that I wrote for it:

Black Turtle found the
Treasure chest, and made fast friends

With the fetish drops.

F is for Furry Lambs Ear and Fuzzy Bees

Look closely to find 2 bees on the lambs ear flowers. My small garden is a constant source of inspiration. I love the soft colors of this plant juxtaposed to the kelly green of the boxwood.

F is for Fresh Fruit

I haven't got any photos of the gorgeous food markets you find everywhere around the world and I don't want to infringe any copyright so I did a quick sketch and coloured it in. If you Google fruit market you will be overwhelmed with inspiration in the form of shapes and colours.

Letter - F

The prompt for the rest of June is for things having to do with the Letter F.
F is for Fern

You are welcome to post artwork of any medium. It can be something you do now, or something you did in the past. You also can post initial ideas that may be a basis for something you do in the future. It can also just be "this caught my eye".

You may also be interested in looking at the entries for Foxgloves, which was one of the prompts given by Helen several months ago!
